Papal selfies – the trend to take self-portrait photos with Pope Francis - is taking off, but one League member is doing her best to make Cardinal selfies the next big thing!
Kairos Catholic Journal journalist Rebecca Comini met Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, at Resurrection Parish in Kings Park, in Melbourne’s western suburbs. The Cardinal was the principal celebrant at the parish’s regular 10.30am Sunday Mass.
‘The chance to take a selfie with Cardinal Timothy Dolan was an opportunity too good to miss,’ Rebecca said.
‘He was very obliging and smiled widely for my camera.’
Cardinal Dolan’s visit to Kings Park was arranged by Br Mark O’Connor, executive director of the Archdiocese’s Archbishop’s Office for Evangelisation office.
‘Resurrection parish priest Fr Noel Brady said to me: ”Br Mark wanted Cardinal Dolan to experience a vibrant, multicultural parish – and I think he got it!”
Rebecca said that the Cardinal was a powerful preacher.
‘He has a strong presence – I’m not sure if that’s because of his height, his accent or his persona. Possibly a combination of all three!’
After Mass, he stayed for a short Q&A session with parishoners, who in turn gave him a thank you gift of a Western Bulldogs beanie and scarf.
